Itinerary:

If you enjoy hiking but prefer a soft bed, hot showers, and great food instead of camping, the Hike Inn is for you. The Inn is accessible only by foot over a moderate 4.7 mile trail which begins at the top falls.  This beautiful trail has many spots to enjoy the views.  We will be hiking at a D2 moderate pace.  This is NOT a fitness hike.

At the time of this posting the Inn has plenty of rooms available but it will go quickly as the rates are 50% off.  The reduced rate is $71.00 per night for a single and $97.50 per night for a double  plus tax.

----NOTE-----Signing up on this AOC site does not reserve a room for you.  You must reserve your own room.  You will not pay the AOC.  You will pay the Hike Inn directly and are bound by their cancellation policy.  Cancellations must be made seven days in advance of a reservation for a refund.  A $10 per room cancellation fee will be applied to all cancellations.  To make your reservation visit:

The Hike Inn (hike-inn.com) and click reservations.  We will be checking in on Monday Jan 23 and leaving Wednesday Jan 25.

If you would like a roommate please reach out to me and I can let you know if anyone has expressed a desire to share a room.  If you sign up for a single and later decide you want to room with someone you will have to call the Inn for the change.  You cannot do that change online.  Call me if you have questions about this.

WHAT TO EXPECT.....The hike up is approx 4.7 miles.  Day 2 you can relax at the Inn or there is a group hiking to Springer Mountain which is 8.8 miles round trip.  Springer Mountain is the start of the AT.  Day 3 we will hike back out 4.7 miles the way we came leaving after breakfast.

The Inn has comfy bunkbeds and a clean bathhouse with hot showers.  The Inn will provide sheets, pillows, towels, wash cloths and hair dryers.  You will need to bring your own toiletries.

Cell phones are discouraged.  This is a great time to unplug and relax.

The rates include family style dinners and breakfasts.  A typical dinner menu is meat and veggies, salad, bread and a homemade dessert.   Breakfasts are hearty which usually include eggs, grits, bacon or sausage.   I believe you can order vegetarian meals or any dietary issues you have at the time you make your reservation.  If not, please call the Inn in advance to let them know.  Do not wait until you get there.  They will not be able to cook just for you.  They do not serve lunch but lunch is available for $12.  We will be ordering lunch during the dinner hour.

Educational and entertaining programs are conducted in the Sunrise Room after dinner most evenings. Programs consist of everything from worm composting to storytelling. Books and games are also available. The Sunrise Room (as you would expect from the name!) is an excellent place to observe the sunset in the evening and the sunrise in the morning.

WHERE TO MEET.........We will be meeting at 10a.m on Monday Jan 23 at the Visitor Center to check in.  They will give us maps on where to park.  Be prepared to give them your license plate #.  We will then drive to the parking lot and hopefully be on the trail at 10:30a.m..  If you dont want to hike at this time that is ok but please note that you MUST begin your hike before 2pm or they wont let you  hike.
