Itinerary:

Delayed 1 day due to weather!

If you have ever stopped at the Fort Mountain Scenic Overlook off of GA 52 and wondered what it would be like to hike in those beautiful mountains, this is the hike for you!

The Pinhoti Trail in Georgia is remote and lightly traveled, join me as I explore this section of trail near Fort Mountain State Park.

We will park at the Cohutta Overlook where plenty of parking will get us started right. The view here is pretty nice. We will shuttle hikers over to  the trailhead, about .5 miles west on GA 2. There is parking for one car in front of the Murray County sign at the side of the road. From the south side of the road we will start a 1 mile ascent before we begin our long, gentle descent over the river and through the woods. Just before our turn around we will ford a 20 foot creek with an adjacent campsite. This will be our lunch spot for the day. I expect we will need creek shoes to make this crossing. After lunch we will retrace our steps and short shuttle to our waiting cars.

This is a difficult D5 event, recent D5 is experience is required to join the fun. Under quailified adventures will be moved to the wait list while they await an email from the trip leader to assess their qualifications.
