Itinerary:

Hi everyone, I plan to walk around the mountain first, then climb up to the summit. Up there I enjoy the view a bit, do some light stretching and perhaps eat a snack. Last I saw the building is still closed at the top, so don't rely on it being open.

I will take a vote, but on the way down, if anyone cares to join, we can do a bit of "informal" yoga, or stretching. I typically do some extra exercises while on the mountain just to get more balance in my workout. I usually do this on a slab of rock in the sun with a view. I feel I recover faster this way, rather than just hopping in the car after a hike. If we're lucky enough to have a yoga teacher lead, it won't be as informal! Ha, I like yoga, but am not a teacher by any stretch!

I will go a moderate pace, but I don't plan on racing around the mountain. Still you should already be in good enough shape to join us for 7 miles up and down the mountain.

We will meet near the start of the walk-up trail beside the rest rooms, adjacent to Confederate Hall. The hike will start promptly at 11:00am so plan to arrive early. There is a $20 parking fee to enter the park; however, free public parking is available in Stone Mountain Village.

Required Items to Bring:

• Comfortable shoes with a good grip-the rock can be slippery.
• 1+ liter of water or sports drink.
• Trail snacks.

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

Google Stone Mountain park. We'll be near the west entrance, beside the Confederate Hall.

Additional directions and maps can be found at:
http://stonemountainpark.co m/default.aspx

If you don't want to pay the $20.00 entrance fee, you can park in Stn Mtn Village, near the caboose and walk into the park from there, but I will leave it up to you to find your way to Confederate Hall from there. The parking lot is rather small, and can definitely fill up. I'm not sure about the street parking since I buy an annual pass, but I'm sure you crafty individuals could find a route without paying.

Notes:

I will cancel the hike up the mountain if it's predicted to rain on Sunday morning.
