Itinerary:
Let's hike Kennesaw mountain! This is one of the rare D5 events close to home.

Our route will be up over big and litlle Kennewaw to Burnt Hickory road, then retrace our steps back to the visitor center. After short break there, we will do the same route to the 2 mile post and return back to the visitor center.  Details below including my recording of the route.

We’ll start at the front of the Visitor Center. While this hike is scenic, it is not leisurely or for beginners .  If you don't start with me and finish in the allotted time frame, you WILL NOT get credit for the hike! Strong experience with D4+ hikes is highly recommended.  In contrast to most AOC hikes, this is a self paced hike.  We will probably spread out based on your level of experience, but you should be prepared to hike at a moderate to fast pace in order to complete this hike.

The number of turns on the hike is minimal, but here is my recording of our route. My recording showed 10+ miles and 2900+ feet of elevation.  Please review/download/memorize the route:

The terrain is mixed with some dirt trails, paved paths, rocky forest, and wide, grooved granite outcrops.  The views near the summit extend to the distant skyline of Atlanta and possibly Stone Mountain.

We will start promptly so plan to arrive a little early to check in and meet the group.

You can either park at the new visitor parking lot on old US Hwy 41 or in the main visitor's center parking lot. Allow a few minutes to walk from old US 41 parking lot to the visitor's center if you park there.
