This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

*** This hike is exploratory as Cooper's Furnace is less familiar to me.  ***

Let's hike Pine Mountain and Cooper's Furnace in Cartersville, GA! We will start by 1/2 of the west loop putting us on the summit.  We will take a short breather, then we will do 1/2 of the east loop putting us on the trail to Cooper's Furnace.  We need a break and our on-the-go snack at one of the picnic tables!  Then back to Pine Mountain and when we get to the summit, we will take break at the David Archer Overlook with some outstanding views of Lake Allatoona and distant mountains.  Then we will complete the other 1/2 of the west loop putting us back at our cars.  This hike is rated D4 because of elevation gain on our route.

My recording of our route showed about 9 miles and 1900 ft elevation:

Recent D3+ experience to join the fun.  Please arrive at least 10 minutes early for socializing.

After the hike, an optional visit to the nearby Tellus Science museum.
