Itinerary:

Join me as I continue my hike to the Georgia section of the Appalachian Trail!

We’ll start our hike at Hog Pen Gap around around 9am headed NOBO on the Appalachian Trail towards Unicoi Gap. We’ll hike approximately  12.1 miles (Ascent 1,240’; Descent 3,180’)  to the Blue Mountain Shelter. On the way we’ll take a lunch break and any needed breaks. One option is the stop at the Low Gap Shelter for lunch. Once we reach the Blue Mountain Shelter, we’ll set up camp. Once we set up camp, we’ll take a little break and lighten our loads for the 2.4 miles (Ascent 280’; Descent 1,240’) hike to Unicoi Gap. Once we reach Unicoi, we’ll take a little break and then hike 2.4 miles (Ascent 1,240’, Descent 289’) back to camp at the Blue Mountain Shelter. Today, we’ll hike approximately 17 miles with 5,160’ of ascent and 4,700’ of descent.

When we wake up, we’ll have some breakfast, pack up and hike SOBO 12.1 miles (Ascent 3,180’; Descent 3,640’) back to Hog Pen Gap.

This Backpacking trip will be approximately 29 miles total with an total elevation gain/loss of 8,340 feet during our entire trip.
