Nestled in the north Georgia mountains just two miles from the Alpine village of Helen, Unicoi is one of Georgia’s most beloved state parks. Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy hiking and biking on scenic mountain trails, especially those leading to Helen and Anna Ruby Falls. Craft lovers should not miss the lodge gift shop specializing in hand-made quilts and local pottery. Numerous picnic tables are located throughout the park.

Sadly, Hurricane Ivan’s rampage through Georgia caused severe damage to Unicoi State Park. Several bridges and switchbacks were damaged or washed out. Over half of the trails have been closed and this work party is essential to return the park to its splendor. If you have wondered how a trail is designed, constructed and maintained then this work party would be for you.

The majority of trials on the east coast are multi-use, meaning hikers, bikers and horses share the trails. SORBA, the regional mountain biking organization will lead this event and provide tools and training.

Saturday and Sunday lunch and Saturday dinner will be provided for all volunteers. Also, volunteers can participate in a raffle (2005 Kona Caldera frame) and silent auction. Some items up for auction include:

· Moots Ti stem - Bids start at $50.00
· Rockshox 03 Psylo XC Anthracite Disk Brake only fork - Bids start at $75.00
· Mavic 717 Disc Brake Wheelset. Bids start at $200.00

You may camp one night or both, work one day or two and of course, we will play after working! Some people plan to ride their bike, others will hit the trail for a hike, while a few people will skip the ride/hike and opt to head down the road to Helen for a cold beer.

Georgia State Parks will offer discounted camping (free to first 50 people to sign-up, ½ price to all others) and meals are provided to volunteers.
