Moderate to Strenuous 7 Mile Hike

Blood Mountain is located near the Union/Lumpkin county line in Northeast Georgia. It is the highest point on the Georgia section of the Appalachian Trail at 4,458 feet, and offers some incredible views of the surrounding region. The mountains name comes from an interesting Indian legend. It has been said that long ago there was a great battle between the Cherokee and Creek Nations on this mountain. According to the legend so many warriors died in the battle that their blood ran down the sides of the mountain and into the rivers turning everything red. It is easy to see from that legend alone how the mountain got its unique name. The Cherokee also thought that Blood Mountain was home to the Nunnehi. The Nunnehi were a spirit people that watched over hunters and people hiking through the region. (Written By David Cook)

Everyones favorite Blood Mountain is Back (well at least one of my favorite), well hike from the parking lot up to the cross road, and from here well hike around the bottom of the Blood Mountain (quite rocky and some area is wet rock due to many small streams, so please be careful), and well come up from behind to the top of the Blood Mountain, well pick out a scenic area to have our lunch, after the lunch, well hike down back to the parking lot. This hike has many beautiful scenic views, with many small streams, rocks and boulders, and a stone mountain like top.

NOTE: My hikes are more leisurely....with plenty of breaks for water and snacks....if you are fast hiker and want to hike fast, this may not be the hike for you.

Required Items to Bring:
Plenty of water. If you have a hiking shoes its better. Trekking pole if you have it, if not you can find a walking stick on the trail.

Blairsville, GA 30512; 706-745-6095 10:30 am Parking lot at Blood Mountain, about 1/4 mile North of Walasi-Yi Interpretive center, parking lot is on the left . From Park & Ride, go North on GA-400 until it ends, at the light, turn left on to 19, go through city of Dahlonega, few miles after city of Dahlonega youll come to Turners Corner, turn left on to 19/129/11 (going North) in few miles youll see Walasi-Yi Interpretive center on the right (If you want to goto the bathroom I would stop here fro pit stop.), go 1/4 mile from the center and youll see the entrance to parking lot on the left.
