Famous for its get muddy tours, Raccoon Mountain Caverns, located near Chattanooga, TN, is considered to be one of the most geologically active. The cavern consists of over 5 1/2 miles of underground passageways.

We will head up on Saturday to Raccoon Mountain Campground. While this will not be our normal wooded campground, it will be very much appreciated for the hot showers following our tour. We will setup our camp on arrival, get a quick bite of lunch and head over for the splunking introduction at 11:30am.

We will start the 4-hour cavern tour at noon. The tour will include walking, stoop walking, some belly crawls, a visit to Sandpaper Slide, the 49-cent squeeze and some awesome fossils. Gloves, pads, lights and helmets will be provided by the outfitter.

Afterwards, we clean-up in the campground bathhouses with the rest of the afternoon open. The campground has lots to do...swimming pool, go-karts and a batting cage. Later, we will prep for dinner and look for a place to have a bonfire.

Sunday, after breakfast, we will pack for home.
