Easy to Moderate With cooler days and a nip in the evening air, it is the perfect time and place for some good ole pioneer camping (a.k.a. car camping). Located near Callaway Gardens and the town of Warm Springs, Georgias largest state park is deeply rooted in the historical era of the four-time President Franklin D. Roosevelt. With the camping season coming to a close (only one more pioneer camping trip left), I thought it would be nice to visit this beautiful park only an hour from Atlanta. It will be tradition pioneer camping this time. We will arrive Friday night, setup camp, cook our evening meal and relax around the fire. Saturday, it is breakfast, a hike to Dowdells Knob (Roosevelts favorite spot) for a picnic lunch with the rest of the afternoon on your own. Later, we will again cook and relax by the fire. Sunday, it is breakfast and pack for home. For those interested, Saturday afternoon in Gay, Georgia (25 miles from the park) is the Cotton Pickin Fair. The Fair is 8am - 6pm and is $5 admission. The Fair is a S.E. Tourism Top 20 Event and includes lots of handcrafted works, art, antiques and of course, food. | |||||||
