Itinerary:
We will drive a few cars  to Turnipseed Camp, which is about 4 miles away from our meeting point, and take the rest of our cars to the start of our hike at High Falls. From High Falls we will walk 4.5 miles uphill on the Odum Scout Trail until its intersection with the Pinhoti Trail and descend (steeply) 2.5 miles on the Chinnabee Silent Trail until we reach Turnipseed Camp. The elevation change is around 1,100 ft. The path is protected from the sun by abundant tree cover.

Optional: After the hike we will have Sunday brunch at the restaurant in Cheaha State Park. The view from the restaurant is really spectacular. After brunch we may drive to the summit of Mount Cheaha, which at 2407 ft. is the highest point in Alabama.

Take a right onto County Road 131 towards AL 281, where it dead ends after about ½ mile. Turn left on AL 281 and continue 11.9 miles. Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $64.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Notes:
Most every boy scout in Alabama broke in his hiking boots on the Odum Scout Trail.  This is a great walk offering waterfalls and views, starting out by climbing metal stairs beside High Falls before passing the Nubbin Creek trail junction and ending at the junction of the Pinhoti and Chinnabee Silent Trail.
The Chinnabee Silent Trail is named for the Boy Scout Tro0p 29 from the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind, who, in conjunction with the U.S. Forest Service, built the trail. We will hike the section of trail between its junction with the Pinhoti Trail and Turnipseed Camp.
* We encourage all members to follow our Etiquette Guidelines while participating in AOC events.

Cost Includes:Share gas costs with carpool driver. If you stay for brunch it will cost you around $12.

Cancellation/Partial Attendance:   Please review the AOC cancellation policy.
