Itinerary:
How about a nice Saturday evening sunset hike to stretch the legs, get some exercise, and then relax and watch the sun set? Join us tonight for a hike up Stone Mountain! We will be beginning the hike at the Confederate Center (near the restrooms). We will take a different approach by doing a part of the nature trail first, branching off for a brief section of the Cherokee Trail, and then breaking off for a free-form approach up the south side of the mountain. The hike will be at a moderate pace, which can seem a little quick when going up the steeper sections, the approach will be longer and more steep than the walk-up trail, so we will need to stay together.  However, the views are very nice from the south side of the mountain.  At the top of the mountain, we will hang out for awhile, take pics, and enjoy the scenic view of the sunset from the top. What a great way to spend the evening! We will be walking down a trail through the woods, and it will be mostly dark, so please bring a small LED flashlight or headlamp to avoid tripping.

The route we will be taking will be approximately 3 miles and will involve some additional steep portions, which is why it is rated a D3. As we will be off the normal trail for a good portion of the hike, please plan to maintain pace with the trip leader until we reach the summit.

HIKE WILL START FROM CONFEDERATE HALL PARKING LOT AT 6:45 pm sharp. PLEASE BE THERE 5-10 MINUTES EARLY FOR SIGN UP AND INTRODUCTION.

Free parking is avaialable at MARTA PARK n RIDE parking lot. It is less than a half mile walk to the park and the entrance is near our meeting area. I will be walking in from the Marta Park & Ride at 6:20 PM for anyone who wishes to park at this location and walk in to the park with me.

Please take the time to look at the park map and parking options in order to be on time!
