Note: My hikes are leisure speed at 2 to 2.5 miles an hour....with plenty of breaks for water and snacks....if you are fast hiker and wants to hike fast, this may not be the hike for you.

Many Years ago, my friend David Nunnally took me to this very impressive hike through a village made of rocks, I have the photographs but I just couldnt remember where it was, it was like rock city but its all natural without all the trolls, lights and music. After the hike I remember going into a cave for brief moment. He told me its Rocktown trail at Pigeon Mountain Wildlife Management Area, 30 minutes South of Chattanooga. its quite wonderful at Rocktown, but please beware some wildlife finds home in these rock formation.

A strange series of boulders and outcroppings that have been given the name Rock Town by those who pass through it. It is well named, for it indeed looks like a town. More than 200 million years ago this area was once great ocean, that at one time completely covered both Pigeon and Lookout Mountains. The water washed away the softer limestone while leaving other, more durable rock. In many places the effect of the water is apparent, from curved holes in solid rock to tiny mazes of stone netting. In downtown Rock Town you can visit the Champaign Glass, where water has eroded the base of a 50-foot tall rock, leaving the cap precariously balanced on what little remains. There are numerous squeezes and caves, but beware, these are often havens for wild animals. --- georgiatrails.com

Pigeon Mountain Wildlife Management Area, GA 10:00am at Rocktown Trail Parking lot. From Hotel Go North on I-75 to exit # 320 go West on GA-136 to La Fayette, go South on US-27 to GA 193, go north on GA 193 for 2.8 miles. Turn left onto Chamberlain Road, marked by the, Crockford-Pigeon Mountain WMA sign. Go 3.4 miles on Chamberlain Road. Turn right onto the gravel road at the Large WMA sign. Go 4.7 miles on the gravel road (passing a DNR station and bearing right at the fork at mile 3.5). Turn left onto a one lane gravel road with a dead end sign. Go 0.7 miles to the trailhead.

NOTE: If planning to meet at the trailhead itself, people can call the co=leader the day of the hike on his cell phone at 678-429-7485. If people are not familiar with Pigeon Mountain the trailhead can be difficult to find. It is best to meet in Marietta.
