This is a Park Ranger led, interpretive hike on the Pine Mountain Trail (PMT) beginning at Dowdell’s Knob and hiking about two and one-half miles to the Sparks Creek campsite. Water is available at the creek, but must be treated. There will be breathtaking vistas, beautiful valleys and several water crossings. There will be an optional night hike. The next day we will hike to Rocky Point which is about two and one-half miles.

The focus of this trip is to learn about the environment and backpacking skills from the interpretive Park Ranger. As backpacking trips can be somewhat daunting for the beginner, this trip is designed to be very easygoing and instructive and non-threatening. This is a great opportunity to try out backpacking. You could rent what you don’t have from an outfitter like REI. We plan to have fun! You are responsible for all your food, water and equipment. Our program should be complete by mid-afternoon Sunday.
