Itinerary:
Strenuous 7 miles

We will walk 2.8 miles south on Cave Creek Trail, take a short connecting trail to the Pinhoti trail, and return to the parking lot. About 2.5 miles from the parking we will do a short detour to a scenic spot where we will stop to rest and have a snack. We will also see the remains of a plane that crashed in the area many years ago.

After the hike we will have Sunday brunch at the restaurant in Cheaha. The view from the restaurant is really spectacular.

After brunch we will visit the park and get to the summit of Mount Cheaha, which at 2407 ft. is the highest point in Alabama.

NOTE: This section of the Pinhoti is very rugged, with many rocks and boulders along the way and several steep ascents and descents, but is very scenic. It is really worth the effort, but you should not attempt it unless you are in good physical condition, have hiked before, and have good knees.

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
Good walking shoes, plenty of water, and trail snacks. A walking stick would be useful.
