Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:
This will be a new hike area for your leader, so please allow for a wrong turn here or there. However, feel secure in knowing that no one has ever gotten lost (completely) at Red Top Mt., so I'm optimistic that we'll make it back safely and in good time.

We will park at the far end of the visitor's center lot to allow folks to purchase their $5 passes - - one per car.  The hike will follow the Homestead and Sweetgum Trails which offer both mountain vistas and views of Lake Allatoona.

We'll take a moderately fast pace on the hike, so this one won't be a good one for beginners unless you're in good shape.

Required Items to Bring:
hiking boots or trail shoes
water

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
Hiking poles, if you like to use them

How to Get There:
Event Directions:From Atlanta, take I-75 Northbound to exit #285. Go right (east) on Red Top Mountain Road and cross Lake Allatoona. Continue straight to the Visitor's Center which will be on your left. We will meet at the far end of the lot from the building.
Carpool to Event Distance (round trip):36Mile(s)
Carpool Departure Time: 11:30 am
Carpool Location:   Log in for location
Carpool Directions:   Log in for directions
Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $14.40 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Notes:
There is a parking fee at all State Parks which is now $5 per car, unless you have an annual State Parks Pass. You will be able to purchase either the daily or annual pass at the Visitor's Center before we start the hike.

There are restrooms located at the Visitor's Center as well as at the Lodge which we will pass during our hike.
