Jim Greene of the Southeast School of Survival developed a special two day survival course for AOC members. He reduced the price from $195 to $145.

Jim created a page on his web site just for this AOC event. It contains most the details about the course.

Jim Greene has been in the Survival business since 1979. He received formal training in Survival at the US Air Force Global Survival School (SERE) in Washington state.  He was trained to teach survival to aircrews regardless of the environment; Desert, Jungle, Arctic, Ocean, Seashore, Mountains, etc.

This course focuses on safety in the outdoors and utilizing tools and equipment properly. This course will include The Survivor's Needs, Psychological Aspects of Survival, The Will to Survive, Firecraft, Survival First Aid, The Art of Improvising, Knots and Lashings, Personal Protection, Shelters, Food Procurement, Food Preparation, Food Preservation, Water Procurement, Water Preparation, Water Preservation, Land Navigation, Land Travel, Signaling, Rescue & Recovery. Map and compass use (Orienteering) will be taught and practiced with small packs. It will cover the need to maintain a Personal Survival Kit for all outdoor outings. The instructor will demonstrate a Personal Survival Kit and the items to build into it. This course will address what to do in an emergency should you become stranded or lost in the wilderness. This course is designed to teach you many wilderness survival principles should the worst-case scenario ever happen to you, not to put you in a survival situation.

It was asked if we're going to kill a rabbit. The anawer is no. Jim says he is able to show us the skill without killing one.

Also, we wull be doing some hiking, so bring the appropiate shoes.

Lastly, you will be spending the night in your tent. But it's like our pioneer camping in that your car will be parked close by.
