Itinerary:
Moderate 7.8 miles.

We will walk the loop counterclockwise. This is the longest loop in the Pine Mountain trail, and it is named after the big poplar located close to the ten mile marker. It crosses several streams, features several rock formations and the vegetation, a mixture of pines and hardwoods, is quite lush.

After the hike we will have a picnic lunch.

Expected hiking time: 3.5 to 4 hours, including rest stops.

Required Items to Bring:
Plenty of water, good hiking shoes, and bug repellent.
Dont forget to bring your picnic lunch.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Callaway Gardens, GA. 9:30 a.m. - at the Fox Den Cove parking area off GA 190. Proceed South on Interstate 85 until Interstate 185. Continue south on Interstate 185 until Exit 35/GA 18. At the top of the ramp turn left (East) on GA 18. After about 6.7 miles you will see an entrance to Callaway Gardens on your right. At that point, GA 18 transitions into GA 354. Continue straight on GA 354 about four miles (crossing US 27 in the process), until you reach GA 190 at a stone bridge. Turn left on GA 190 and proceed a short distance to the Fox Den Cove parking area at mile 6.

Are Dogs Permitted? No.

Will this event occur rain or shine? Yes. If the rain is too heavy to hike, we will visit FDR’s Little White House, which is in nearby Pine Mountain (admission is $7.00 per person).

NOTE: Please be considerate of others. If you sign-up and cannot attend, please e-mail the event leader, so others that may be on a waiting list may attend.

Cost Includes:Share gas costs and parking fee with carpool driver.
The one-way distance is about 75 miles, and the parking fee is $3.00 per car.
