Itinerary:
Moderate to Strenuous 7 mile

For this hike we are going to approach Blood Mountain from the somewhat lesser used trials starting at Lake Winfield Scott. Total hiking distance will be about seven miles and the elevation gain will be pretty steady from the start until we reach the summit of Blood Mountain which is the highest point on the Georgia portion of the Appalachian Trial.

If it is a clear day we should have some great 360 degree views at our lunch spot on Blood Mountain. About half of this hike will be along the Appalachian Trail.

I generally aim to go at a moderately fast pace, stopping every 30 to 45 minutes to let the group gather up. If you are new to hiking in the mountains you may want to e-mail the hike leader to make sure this is the right hike for you. Most newcomers do fine, but with warmer weather approaching this hike could be a little more difficult than it would be in April.

Depending on what the group wants to do, we may stop in Dahlonega on the way back to eat a late lunch.
