Itinerary:
So, you’ve done my pioneer camping trips. Well, what’s next you ask? How about the M.O.E.-tel with some intermediate whitewater kayaking added for good measure?

The M.O.E.-tel is Mountaintown Outdoor Expeditions own rustic cabin (stress rustic here)…get it…M.O.E.-tel. Ha. Anyway, the M.O.E.-tel is a large wooden cabin with bunk beds for 18 people, a loft for 6 people in sleeping bags on the floor, hot water showers, deck, grill, kitchen-area, living room, etc.

Friday, we’ll head up to the M.O.E.-tel after work to make ourselves at home, cook dinner, play Ping-Pong, retire to the living room couches or head out to the lawn for a bonfire and smores. Saturday, after breakfast, we’ll walk over to M.O.E. to begin our kayaking adventure. NOTE: Due to low water levels, only 14 sit-on-top kayaks are available. Yes, so that means only 14 can kayak. If you have a duck boat or kayak you would like to bring, please do so.

NOTE: The Cartecay River is a class I-II+ river. This trip requires that you are comfortable in and around fast moving water. Safety equipment and floatation devices will be provided by M.O.E. and is required to be worn at all times while on the river! In addition, beginner or intermediate experience in handling and steering a kayak is required for this trip.

While at M.O.E., we will see a safety video, receive brief instruction on whitewater rescue, and pick up our safety equipment. We’ll then board the bus for the short trip to the river. While this is a class I-II+ river, the rapids themselves are not difficult to navigate.

After our trip, we’ll return to the M.O.E.-tel for a late lunch. The afternoon is free for you to do as you wish…visit Ellijay, hike, mountain bike or return to the river to relax. Later, we’ll have dinner, some entertainment, and a Ping Pong Championship.

For Sunday, it’s breakfast and then pack for home. We have to be out of the MOE-tel by 10am.
