Itinerary:

After parking at the first trailhead, we walk to the closeby trail and hike two miles down into the Chattooga National Scenic wilderness. Path ends just below Sock’em Dog rapids. From here we will follow Opussum Creek (flows into river here) up less than ˝ mile to the 100’ waterfall on Opussum Creek. After the short hike up and back, we will stop at the river for a liberally long lunch, wading, swimming break at the river. After the half-hour or so break we will walk back out the moderate two miles to the vehicles and travel to the next trailhead at Brasstown creek. This hike is only listed as 3/10’s of a mile, but the trail is narrow, rugged, root grabbing hike to three spectacular and completely different waterfalls. You’ll not see 3 such totally different waterfalls in such a short distance anywhere I know of in the Southeast. Those that wish can join in an inexpensive dinner at the Peking gourmet, a great extensive buffet of Chinese food in Clayton, GA

Required Items to Bring:
Usual quart of more of water depending on how hot-two quarts if very hot, energy gels or gatorade suggested to replenish electrolytes lost in sweating. Water shoes for the ten food wide, but shallow creek crossing to the Chattooga River beach.
Recommended Items to Bring:
