Itinerary:
How about a nice "twice a year" sunset hike to stretch the legs, get some exercise, and then relax and watch the sun go down.  Why "twice a year?"... because the sun will be setting exactly between the group of buildings in Downtown and the group in Midtown, which occurs twice each year.

(It is possible that this hike could be rescheduled +/- a day if the weather does not cooperate)

We will be beginning the hike at the Confederate Center (near the restrooms).  We will hike about half of the nature trail, hop on the Cherokee Trail, then cut off for a slightly different approach up the mountain which will keep us off the walk-up trail most of the way.  At the top of the mountain, we will hang out for awhile, take pics, and enjoy the scenic view of the sunset from the top.  The sun will be setting between downtown and mid-town, so we should get a nice view.  What a great way to spend the evening! We will be walking down a trail through the woods, so please bring a small LED flashlight or headlamp to avoid tripping.

This hike will be about 3.5 miles (about 1.5 miles longer than the walkup trail) and will involve additional steep portions, which is why it is rated a D3.  Because we will not be on the walk-up trail going up or down, please plan to maintain pace with the trip leader.

I expect the temperature to be a little cooler on top of the mountain at 6:30 PM (forecast to be added a few days prior to event).  So you may want to take an extra layer to maintain your comfort level.

HIKE WILL START FROM CONFEDERATE HALL PARKING LOT AT 5:15 PM. PLEASE BE THERE 5 MINUTES EARLY FOR SIGN UP AND INTRODUCTION.
