Itinerary:
Fun, Moderate

One of the great ways to beat the summer temperatures is to play in the water. Kayaking is a great way to enjoy the local lakes/rivers/and coasts not only in the summer, but throughout the year. Here is your opportunity to learn flat water (also known as sea) kayaking in a close to town setting.

The major difference between sea kayaking and white water kayaking has to do with the length of the boat. Sea Kayaks are much longer and allow for more stability and different recovery techniques, as well as the ability to travel faster and carry more gear. I will be teaching the basic skills of sea kayaking including paddle strokes and techniques.

There will be some land based instruction, but the majority of the time will be out on the water. A focus on safety will be stressed to allow participants the skills to do wet exits, assisted and solo recoveries.

The only requirement to take this class is a willingness to have fun, comfort with swimming/treading water for at least 5 minutes in a lake.

If you own or have access to a recreational/touring kayak, please contact trip leader prior to the trip for approval and reduction in fees. If you have any questions about this event or if you have dietary concerns/restrictions, be sure to contact trip leader.
