Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Come join Joyce and Lauren on Memorial Day morning for a hike around the largest island on Lake Lanier Islands. As best as I can tell this is AOC's first hike on Lake Lanier Islands and these are newly opened and re-vamped trails. There is sure to be lots of activity as Memorial Day marks the beginning of the busy season on Lake Lanier. The Blue Ridge Extreme trail is about 6 miles long and is sure to be gorgeous. This is listed as an Exploratory hike as your Trip Leaders have not done this hike before. We have a map and we're on an island - we aren't going to get lost. Just please bear with us as we learn these trails. Also, as with all exploratory hikes or events, please keep an open mind and be prepared to hike a slightly further distance if needed. We do not know the terrain we will encounter and as such we ask you to be a solid D3 hiker. This is not a hike for beginners.

We will hike the Blue Ridge Extreme Trail. Description from the website:

Blue Ridge Extreme

Hike along the edge of Blue Ridge Island on a trail forged by deer migrations and natural wildlife. This six mile pathway of rugged terrain winds in and out of secluded coves and peninsulas of the Resort's largest island.

Trail map:

There is a $10 per car fee to enter the Islands. We will meet at Publix close by (see below) and take a few vehicles on to the Island. Please bring 5 $1 bills to put towards the entry fee. The exact amount will depend on how many people are in the vehicle - it should be $3 to $4 per person. The driver does not pay anything towards the entry costs, only the passengers - this is in lieu of them driving the 10 or so miles round trip from Publix to the Island and collecting carpool money. So if you are in a car with three passengers, you will pay $3.50. **There is no meet at event option**

Carpool leaves at 8:30AM sharp. Please arrive a few minutes early to check in.

There is a Cracker Barrel Restaurant directly across the street from our carpool location. We'll have lunch there afterwards but will drop everyone off at their cars first. You are welcome to stay for lunch or head directly home.

Timing (this is our best estimate but please be a little bit flexible):

Carpool leaves 8:30

In park, paid and starting hike 9:00

Hike should take about 2 hours and 45 mins (give or take)

Back to car at Publix 12:15

Afterwards is optional at Cracker Barrel
