Itinerary:

Come join us for a morning hike at beautiful Stone Mountain Park. We will meet inside the park near the restrooms at the bottom of the walk up trail behind Confederate Hall. The hike will begin at 8:30am so please show up 10 or 15 minutes early. If you don't already have a pass to get into the park, a day pass can be purchased at the gate for $10 or a yearly pass for $35. If you don't want to pay anything, see instructions below for free parking outside the park. (If you park outside the park, give yourself enough time to find the Park-n-Ride lot and at least 15 minutes to make the walk into the park to meet up with the group)

This is not a fitness hike but we do plan to keep a moderate to fast pace with a few rest stops along the way. We'll climb Stone Mountain first and enjoy the view at the top for 10-15 minutes.  On the way down we'll pick up the Cherokee Trail and circle the mountain once. I don't plan to slow the hike down for photos but there will be some good photo opportunities during our breaks.

Total distance: 7-8 miles

We should be done by noon.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

Directions: To the main entrance- From I-285 take U.S. Hwy 78 East (Snellville/Athens) exit. Travel about 7 miles and take Exit 8, the Stone Mountain Park Main Entrance. After entering the main entrance, proceed straight ahead. The road will fork at about 1 mile – stay to the right. Continue to follow the road for another mile. Confederate Hall will be on your left. The parking lot will be immediately after. We’ll meet behind Confederate Hall near the walk up trail.

If you would like to try the free public parking in Stone Mountain Village, from Hwy 78 take exit 5 and merge onto GA 10. Proceed 0.5 miles to the first exit. At the end of the ramp turn left. Drive a mile or so, past a gas station and a funeral parlor (both on your right). When you see City Hall turn left. There is a Marta park and ride on fourth street. From there it is a short walk on East Mountain Street. Enter the park through the gate and you'll be at the parking lot where we'll be meeting. The Marta parking lot is about an 10-minute walk from the park.
