Itinerary:
Strenuous, 17 miles

NOTE: This is a demanding hike. Do not attempt it unless you are in good physical condition and have prior experience.

From Amicalola State Park we will follow the Access Trail to the summit of Springer Mountain (elev 3782 ft.), which is the southern terminus of the Appalachian trail. We will spend the night at the nearby shelter and return to our cars the next day. On the way back we will visit Len Foote Hike Inn, and if there is interest, have lunch there.

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
Plenty of water, picnic lunch, walking poles, good hiking shoes, bug repellent, sunblock, flashlight (preferably a headlamp), sleeping bag, mattress, suitable clothing, cooking utensils, food for dinner and breakfast, snacks for the trail. I will bring a first aid kit and filtering equipment to treat water. (Two) walking poles are highly recommended for this event.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Amicalola State Park 9:30 a.m. - outside the Amicalola State Park office. Amicalola State Park is 15 miles northwest of Dawsonville on GA 52. Take 400 North to GA 53 (on your left) Take GA 53 west to GA 183 north to GA 52 east. Park is on your left.

Are Dogs Permitted? No.

Will this event occur rain or shine? Yes, unless there is snow, hail, or thunderstorms.

NOTE: Please be considerate of others. If you sign-up and cannot attend, please e-mail the trip leader, so others that may be on a waiting list may attend.
