Itinerary:

Another warm and nice weekend is being anticipated!! Why not come out for a nice morning hike? East Palisades is one of the most beautiful of all the CNRA units. Indian Trail offers several miles of trails that connect to a scenic overlook that offers excellent views of the Devil's Racecourse Shoals. The rugged granite palisades were called the Devil's Stairsteps during the 19th century by river boatmen because the shoals "were the devil" to navigate. I can promise you a great hike.  We will hike about six miles of the trails in this section of the Chattahoochee River NRA including sections along the river as well as a few steep, rugged areas.  We will be hiking at a brisk pace. We'll see the observation deck and the cave if all goes well!  And of course, there's the bamboo forest, which should be in their natural green color since summer is behind us - - always an awesome sight, especially for first timers.  I'm very fairly familiar with this park, but I may take routes I've not attempted in the past, this is why I'm listing this as an exploratory hike. Still, it should not take much longer than the 2.5 hours limit estimated for this event.

Please remember to bring $3 cash for the National Park Service parking fee. Alternatively, it's a better deal to get an annual pass if plan to visit any of the 17 or so Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area parks more than 8 times over the next 12 months. Annual pass cost is $25

The following is a link to get annual passes online.

If you bring your dog, it should be able to keep up with the group and interact well with other dogs and people. The Chattahoochee NRA requires that owners keep their dogs on a leash and clean up after their pets on the trails. A maximum of three dogs will be permitted on this hike, so if you see three dogs signed up, please do not add yours.
