Itinerary:

We will meet near the restrooms at confederate Hall parking area (at the hike up trail) at 5:45 PM. After brief introductions we will hike up the walk up trail to the top of Stone Mountain. We will start hiking at 6:PM so as to not miss the moonrise. The sun should set at about 6:58 PM and the full moon should rise at about 6:48. After enjoying the evening for a while on the mountain, we will head back down to the parking area where we started. After we summit the mountain you will be free to go back down when you like.

If you have never done a night hike, or just want to do another, this could be an option after we get down the mountain. Night hikes are different than day hikes and lots of fun. If there is interest we could add on a night hike on the trails once we get down the mountain. Headlamps will be needed if we get on the trails.

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
A desire to have fun while hiking up the mountain, good walking shoes, water or sports drink, a snack, a headlamp may be useful if it is overcast skies; otherwise the moon should show us the way down the mountain pretty well. A light jacket may be desireable depending on the weather. There can be a strong breeze at the top of the mountain.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Directions To Confederate Hall Parking Lot: To the main entrance- From I-285 take U.S. Hwy 78 East (Snellville/Athens) exit. Travel about 7 miles and take Exit 8, the Stone Mountain Park Main Entrance. After entering the main entrance, proceed straight ahead. The road will fork at about 1 mile - stay to the right. Continue to follow the road for another mile. Confederate Hall will be on your left. (Careful - there's a stop sign in front of Confederate Hall for those entering the West Gate.) The parking lot will be immediately after. Wait for the group near the walk up trail. MARTA PARK & RIDE LOT Free public parking in Stone Mountain Village From Hwy 78 take exit 5 - stay right for a half mile - then a quick exit to E. Ponce/Stone Mtn. Village. At the end of the ramp turn left. Drive a mile or so into town. Turn left on East Mountain. Turn right on Fourth Street. There you will find the MARTA park and ride.
