Itinerary:

Join me for a moderate 7 mile hike and possible fall foliage views around the 260 acre lake at Fort Yargo State Park, with occassional stops at interesting attractions along the way. This relatively flat trail travels around the lake and it is open to both foot traffic and bicycles. The trail hugs the shoreline in many locations, offering scenic lake and possible wildlife views. It also travels into wooded uplands for different views of plants and trees.

I've hiked this trail once in the past, but I'm listing as an exploratory hike because of my less than full familiarity with the trail and the possibility of encountering the unknown next time around.

This historical park features a log fort built in 1792 by settlers for protection against Creek and Cherokee Indians. Located in Winder, GA between Atlanta and Athens, Fort Yargo offers a fun camping, hiking, biking (leisure and mountain) and fishing experience for families.
