Itinerary:

Kayakers come from all over the southeast to paddle the waterfalls of Tallulah Gorge during the annual whitewater release. On a typical day, the water flow through the gorge is 35-40 CFS (cubic feet per second).  During whitewater releases, the flow is 500 - 700 CFS.  At more than 10 times the normal flow, the whitewater release allows the falls to return to a more natural level, if only for a few days.

The waterfalls of Tallulah Gorge are always an amazing sight, but watching kayakers navigate the falls during a whitewater release is sure to be a treat!

We will hike the North Rim Trail and Inspiration Trail to view the falls from the top of the gorge. Then we will descend the long metal staircase down to the suspension bridge to see the falls and kayakers from another perspective.  After taking pictures, we will climb the 600 steps back out of the gorge to the Visitors Center.

Once we catch our breaths, we will eat our lunch and then walk the 4 mile High Bluff trail to take in the beautiful fall colors.  The High Bluff trail is fairly level with some easy hills. This hike is rated a D3 due to the stairclimb and the quick hiking pace on the High Bluff trail.

The weather forecast for Tallulah Falls on Saturday is sunny skies with a high of 54 degrees!
