Itinerary:

Join us for an easy D2 4.5 mile hike along the Buford Dam and Lake Lanier Laurel Ridge Loop, weather permitting.  We’ll start at the Lower Overlook parking lot, which is just on the Gwinnett County side of the dam off of Buford Dam Road.  Follow this link for more information on this trail, directions, and photos.

The loop trail is a mix of flat paths, hills with tree roots and rocks, wooded pine straw paths, beaches, and lake and river views.  We will take a few detours to get a close look at the dam and then the lake where we will observe the full moon rising over the water.  The sun will set at 8:00 pm and the moon will rise at 8:23 pm.  Elevation gain will be minimal at 751 feet.

You must bring a head lamp or flashlight in order to participate in this hike for safety reasons.  We will stop along the way to enjoy nature, darkness, and the sounds of the woods. If you’ve never done a night hike before you are in for a real treat. It puts a whole new perspective on hiking.

Restrooms are available at the parking lot and parking is free.  Please arrive about 10 minutes early to meet everyone before we head out.

This is a weather permitting hike.  If it's raining, there doesn't seem to be a reason to do a full moon hike... just sayin'
