Gourdneck,

Camping Saturday night is at Cavers Paradise near Kimball Tn.  I will meet the carpool at the Kimball walmart and caravan to the campsite from there.  Gourdneck is an advanced Cave.  No beginners should attempt to come.  It is listed as a Vertical cave and has a vertical entrance.  Caving experience is required.

Caution:

This is a wet cave, so appropriate clothing is recommended and neccesary!  Please no cotton, or jeans, "YOU WILL GET COLD."  I will ask you not to enter if your gear and clothing will get you hurt or worse.  This is for personal and group safety!!

No electronics should enter the cave that you value!!!.

After we come out of the cave and get changed.  I will be going into Chattanooga for a late lunch/ early dinner.  Anyone is welcome to join.  The restaurant is the Terminal Brew House.


Required Items to Bring:

Caving/Climbing Helmet (no bike helmets)

Headlamp (Waterproof)

2 other light sources minimum (prefer 2 headlamps)

plenty of batteries

backpack/fanny pack

water

snacks

longsleeve shirt (synthetic materials only, no cotton)

Extra Longsleeve shirt if you are cold natured

long pants (no jeans or cotton)

Polythermals (work out liners/running tights (legs highly recommended))

boots (soft soles preferred, no sandals/ five fingers)

Socks (smart wools, wigwams, Seal Skins)

gloves (no cotton, mechanics gloves/ plumbers gloves)

kneepads (no hard plastics)

towell (big enought to change under)

zip loc freezer bags (2)

trashbag for dirty clothes

face and hand wipes to clean off

change of clothes for ride back home

 

Camping Items: Cavers Paradise has Running water, showers, bathrooms, there is a $5 donation to keep the facilities running.

Food (and a way to cook it)

Beverages (and a way to keep it cold or hot)

I will meet the Saturday carpool at the Kimball TN Walmart and Finish the Caravan to the Cavers Paradise.  You should be arriving around 5:15 pm (Eastern)

I will appoint a carpool leader to make sure everyone is there.  The event is carpool only from the Walmart, I will not be giving out directions to the cavers paradise, or any of the caves.

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $92.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Important information for paid events in which payment is managed through the AOC:

     - Payment must be received by the payment due date and prior to participation in the event.

     - Some paid events require a minimum number of registered participants. If that number is not met, the event will be canceled and refunds will be issued to those who have already paid.

     - Third-party vendors often require damage deposits. Each registrant agrees to be liable for and required to reimburse the Atlanta Outdoor Club for any withheld deposits due to the actions of or damages caused by that registrant.

     - No partial payments. All registrants must pay the posted Member Cost regardless of any agreement you may have with any party involved in the event.

     - Read the event description carefully for additional information, and contact the trip leader(s) with any questions.

* We encourage all members to follow our Etiquette Guidelines while participating in AOC events.
