Itinerary:

Come along for this unique whitewater rafting adventure!  The river part of the trip will be professionally guided and outfitted by the Nantahala Outdoor Center Ocoee Outpost [NOCOO] folks and no previous whitewater experience is required.  They will provide a guide for each six person raft along with paddles and PFD's [personal flotation devices], and lunch.  We will be stopping for a nice River side lunch along the way.  This trip is perfect for beginners and experienced whitewater rafters alike.  The River ride takes us through a nearly continuous array of Class III and IV rapids.  The trip is unique because we will do both the Upper and Middle Ocoee sections for a total of 4 hours of River running!   The Upper section is famous for being the site of the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games Whitewater course.  For those of us around for the Olympics then, it will be fun to celebrate its 20th anniversary while running the course this summer.

The trip also includes lodging/camping at the Ocoee Retreat Center [ORC]. After the River, we will drive a short distance to the Walnut Lodge on the ORC grounds.  We have this 16 person lodge reserved that is situated in a nice secluded and wooded area.  The lodge has a great kitchen where we can prepare our dinner and breakfast.  It also has a large meeting area, as well as an awesome fire ring where we can relax and sing some songs together with the guitar.  Initially, our trip was limited to 16 due to the number of beds.  However, I was able to get them to agree to allowing tent camping.  So, UPDATE:  The first 16 folks have a bed reserved from their original registration, all others who were moved from waiting list or register after the first 16, are welcome to pitch their own tent or bring an air matress to sleep in the common area of the lodge.  All members have access to the kitchen, bathrooms, and showers.  All members pay the same fee for the trip.

Schedule:

7:30 pm. Arrive back on the bus at NOCOO after completing Upper and Middle Ocoee sections.  Move cars short distance from NOCOO to ORC Walnut Lodge.

7:45 pm. Check in at Walnut lodge at ORC.  Relax, have a beer, shower, cook dinner, start campfire.

9:00 pm. Chill by the campfire, have a beverage, play guitar and sing some tunes!

Sunday, June 24

9:00 am. Get up, cook breakfast, relax with a cup of joe, check out and head home late morning. If you like, we may hit a trail in Cohutta Wilderness before heading home since it is on our way.

Sleeping Arrangements:

Walnut has a variety of multi-bed rooms.  This will require some coordination and cooperation with the group.   Unfortunately, it cannot just be first come first serve.  We will need to organize rooms based on gender and married couples.  No, there won't be room assignments, we will just need to work together to accomplish this once we arrive.  Please see above explanation for members who registered after the 16th person slot.  You will need to pitch a tent or sleep in common area.

Cooking:

There is a large kitchen.  It is always fun to cook a little extra for your buddies and share dishes.  I will be bringing some food with this in mind.  I will try to get the fire started quickly in the event anyone wants to cook on it.  We will need everyone to cooperate with clean-up after each meal.
