Itinerary:

You pick which week/section you would like to attend.  The list is at the bottom of the post.  The plan is to do a 70 mile section of the Appalachian Trail each week.  The crew for each week has the option of daypacking or backpacking or a mix of both trekking types.

I will have a guidebook and a phone app with the latest trail information as to lodging and shuttles.  These services are customarily booked a day in advance based on the latest read of where you are on the trail.  My guidebook has a larger assortment of hiker hostel opportunities but here is a decent list:

https://thetrek.co/appalachian-trail/appalachian-trail-hostels-listing/?mc_cid=c7e9dd5454&mc_eid=3911dc3d34

Road crossings are typically available every 4 - 15 miles but in cases such as the Smokys and Southwest Virginia can be as far apart as 20 - 32 miles.  In any case, the opportunity exists to resupply every 1-2 days which can also involve in-town lodging and breakfast/dinner.

Daily mileage will vary with road crossings and weather.  While 70 miles in 7 days suggests daily mileage of 10 days actual mileage will vary and one needs to be physically prepared for a mix of D6 days with possible "zero days" or "nero days".  A D6 day is typically followed by a zero or nero day for recovery.

Week by week is listed in a paragraph near the bottom of the post.

Required Items to Bring:

You need D6 experience with daypacking or backpacking experience to make this trek.  If experienced, you will know what works best for you to carry in your pack.  If you don't know, then you probably need to do some shorter shakedown treks.  Everyone's needs and comforts are different.

Please be advised that attendees of AOC events should have face coverings on their person, in the event they are unable to maintain a physical distance of 6 feet.

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

Whether I have a daypack or backpack for a 7 day trek, you can expect me to at least be carrying an umbrella and rainpants, pack raincover, sunglasses, guidebook, a water bottle with filter, filtered water bottle, lunch, vitamins and meds, tooth brush/paste, tp, sports drink mix, phone and charger, flashlights, socks and long and short sleeve athletic shirt, and 2 empty bread bags.

Backpacking adds the shelter system, sleep system and cook system.

I will start the mornings wearing trailrunners, debris gaiters, knee high socks, running shorts, short sleeve athletic shirt, technical pullover hoodie, windbreaker, puffy coat, face mask, and stylish straw hat.
