Write Up:

This was a very well-deserved D4 hike by our group of eight. We were very lucky to dodge rain today, but that meant enduring temperatures that climbed into the 90's! But the hike was special because we met a brand new AOC member - - Rick - - who kept us entertained throughout the entire hike with his humor and wit (sarcasm).

Due to a wrong turn (actually, one of several), we started the hike on the Wild Turkey Trail which was the trail we intended to take, but it somehow turned into the Brown Thrasher Trail, ultimately transitioning into the Flat Rock Trail and the very hilly Bobcat Trail. So we hiked several miles before we realized we went in the wrong direction on the Wild Turkey Trail! We got back to the Visitor Center (where we started) and decided to have lunch there on the shaded patio with two picnic tables and a restroom!

Then, our goal was to see the tower on the Tower Trail, so the second half of our hike was a trek along the Wild Turkey Trail (in the correct direction!) to the Tower Trail where we finally made it to the tower! Success!

The group was great, tolerating all of the missed trails and the backtracking we did. We had Molly, a constant companion, who loved to lead the group until she tired out (as we all did). The group was really happy to return to the Visitor Center once again, completing 10 miles and 1072 feet of elevation gain. ~ Joyce
