Sunday morning Trip Leader Clay White led our group of 14 AOCers on a 5.5 mile hike at the Gold Branch unit of the CRNRA. We hiked at a good clip, staying plenty warm despite the cloudy, cool weather. Clay stopped frequently to allow those of us taking lots of photos to catch up. On our water breaks at trail junctions, we chatted for a few minutes and got to know one another. We had one first time AOC member with us, and a couple AOCers who'd done just a few hikes. It was a good mix of old and new, and we all enjoyed the great hike. There was plenty to see as spring has definitely sprung in the woods and along the river. Wildflowers were in abundance, and we had fun spotting some geological finds as well (semiprecious stones along the rock strewn river bank). We had the delightful audio accompaniment of birdsong as mating songbirds competed on nature's airwaves. It was a terrific spring hike! Courtney Harjung
