Write Up:

Kathy and I are proud of our group of nine adventurous AOCers who didn't let a little light drizzle today keep us from having a great time at an "O Meet" in the beautiful rugged terrain by the Chattahoochee.  Our friends in the Georgia Orienteering Club did their usual bangup job hosting us and several dozen other participants at this well planned event to which the public was invited.
Our AOC "subgroup" began with a discussion of compasses, topo maps and the sport of Orienteering  - then had fun working together to locate ten brightly colored "control flags" in a 3-mile intermediate-difficulty "O course."  The flags' positions were plotted as red circles on the GAOC's special 10-color topo map of the East Palisades.  Our trusty compasses came in handy to orient our maps to the surrounding terrain and occasionally to keep us on a chosen bearing through the woods toward the next flag in the "Yellow course."  Each of us went home today feeling more confident in our ability to find our way safely through wilderness terrain.   -Charlie
