Itinerary:
short 3-4 mile easy to moderate hike, relaxing train ride

Amicolola Falls, besides being a beautiful waterfall is one of the highest east of the Mississippi.

We will carpool from the park and ride and will travel north on I –575 to Ellijay, GA where we will travel east on Hwy. 52 to Amicolola State Park. There we will hike on a couple of their short loop trails and then up the wooden steps to the viewing deck to the waterfall, enjoy the view and walk back down to our cars after the moderate but short hike and drive back to Ellijay. From there we will travel north on I-575/515 to Blue Ridge, and park close to the train depot. This train ride is relaxing, scenic; and good fun. There is an open car in the back of the train, which is fun to hang out in with fresh air and nice views. The 1-hour train ride follows the winding and beautiful Toccoa River north to McCaysville, GA – Copperhill, TN, two towns which are separated by a painted line across the street, and provide some quaint shops. There is a 1-½ hour layover before the train whistle blows, and we return to Blue Ridge. (Total trip time is about 3 ½ hours). Then we go back to Blue Ridge, GA where, those that are interested in gourmet quality dinner, can drive several miles to the Toccoa River restaurant where they prepare fresh mountain trout three different ways or various other menu items, including good desserts.
