Itinerary:

FULL MOON BLANKET'S CREEK HIKE.

Please check that the trail is open before coming http://sorbawoodstock.org/trail-status/ . They are controlled by the local mountain bike group and we must follow their rules. We will meet at the pavilion which is to the right after entering the park.

Reasons to join this event:

  • Scared of the sun
  • Get out of work late
  • Like to dodge bikes
  • Test out your new headlamp & batteries
  • Dislike sitting in traffic on the way to a hike
  • Want to shop at the outlet mall before hiking
  • Free parking
  • Enjoy post-event trailgating

We will be doing Mosquito Flats + South Loop under a full moon. These trails are shared with mountain bikes but we are ok to hike on them as we, but required to go the opposite direction so wecan see their lights b4 any issues arrise. The bikes have the right away on this trail so we will need to step to the side if we encounter any. Just be sure not to look at them (blinding them with our own lights).

This is a Non-Stop effort. We will generally go 3+ mph however it may be a little slower with the stops for bikes and the fact that we are hiking in the dark. There are no lights on the trail so you will definitely need a flashlight or headlamp (aim is to use the full moon, safely). The park closes at 11pm so we must be done by then, this shouldn't be a problem unless something out of the ordinary happens

Total hiking is approximately 6.25 miles in 2hrs
RAIN CONTINGENCY PLAN
If the trails are closed and it is raining I will move the event start point to Riverside Park, Roswell GA (paved lot to the right as you pull in), we will go out the boardwalk to Willeo Creek and back (simialr distance, but flat as can be).

Thanks to Eric P. for allowing me to highjack his original write up, who highjacked it from Paula S. :P - so thanks you two!
