Sat, Mar 28 2015 - Kennesaw Park Trail Mix - BIG Loop End to End (View Original Event Details)

Trip Leader(s): Ron S
Participants:Ron S, Adel

Write Up:

Everything went as planned and Adel and I defined a nice long loop, partly on some of the lesser traveled trails.  Here is the map and stats:

Time =  6 hours and 15 minutes (including lunch at the visitor center picnic area).
Distance = 16.5 miles
Average moving speed = 2.65 mph
Total altitude gain (and loss) = 4507 Ft.
So according to the difficulty ratings page this might actually qualify as a D6, but it did not feel like it since the elevation gains were spread out over many smaller hills.

Here is a picture of the Atlanta Skyline (without buckhead) from part way up Little Kennesaw mountain:

And here is a picture of some earthworks and an isolated island of moss, west of Hardage Mill (in an area the was held by the Union Army):

Now that I know how far it is, and how long it takes, I'm sure to do it again in either direction with slight variations for fun.  This would make a nice marathon training run and if you didn't want to do the mountains you could take camp brumby trail instead.
