Thu, May 7 2015 - Audubon Birdwatching Hike at lovely Murphey Candler Park (View Original Event Details)

Participants:Charlie Cottingham, Joe F

Write Up:

We took advantage of the perfect spring weather this morning and had a delightful leisurely birding walk around the park's big lake.  Airborne hawks were especially active today and we got incredible  views of two two large red-shouldered hawks, a red-tailed hawk and a sleek Cooper's hawk.  Mallard duck & Canada geese families were also out in force, with dozens of newly hatched fuzzy babies learning to forage for themselves between their parents.  Also dozens of colorful and sweetly singing songbirds:  cardinals, woodpeckers, redstarts, bluebirds and many many more.  Our group of nine birders jointly identified more than 50 different species by sight or sound.  Thanks to my Audubon friends Liz, Mary and Nick for doing such a fine job leading the walk!
