Write Up:
Eleven of us gathered at the base of the Walk-up Trail to the top of Stone Mountain at 3 PM and we began our hike shortly after. Being it was the first weekend of August it was hot, but after the first half mile or so we entered the wooded area of the Cherokee trail which encircles Stone Mountain. Because there was a lot to see we stopped a good and went at a fairly leisurely pace. Among our stops were a little creek crossing, a covered bridge, a grist mill and a new exhibit on granite quarrying. At a little past 6 PM we crossed the main lawn at Stone Mountain where a good crowd had already gathered for the 9:30 laser show. After a couple of people got drinks in the village area of Stone Mountain, we continued back to the starting point of the hike.

Most people left but a few of us stayed for the laser show. A little after 7:30, the sky let loose and a strong thunderstorm came through. However we found a tunnel and set up our chairs for 45 minutes to wait it out. The storm actually helped us out as the lawn was far less crowded for the laser show and we were able to get good seats.
