The cool temp and sunny sky were perfect for hiking and sitting on the rocks on top of Eagle Mountain to enjoy the view. There the frontrunners set their eyes on Bell Knob. A few returned to base camp via the northside approach, while the rest of us descended on the southside approach to Bell Gap. From there we started a steep bushwhack up to Bell Knob. Concerns about running out of daylight hours were pushed aside after a call to base camp secured a shuttle from the road leading to Bell Knob. More steep bushwhacking got us to the trail to the summit, where jeeps on steroids tried to negotiate the deep ruts in the road. On the summit, everyone had a big smile in light of the 360 views, and we enjoyed seeing several hangliders take off.
