Blue skies, bright sunshine, crisp temperatures.  Perfect mountain hiking weather.  The approach trail let us know we would have to earn our panoramic views, but it was worth it.  We hiked along the Bartram Trail, for 11.3 miles, alternating between the expansive views through winter hardwoods and Rhododendron archways.  Having lunch just south of Wilson Gap.  Along the way we saw beautiful rock outcroppings, and babbling streams.  However, the piece de resistance was the view from the top of Rock Mountain.  From the overlook we could see an expansive valley stretching to Courthouse Gap (our starting point) and on to Clayton, surrounded by the peaks of the Appalachians.  All enjoyed a good workout, rewarded with a beautiful day in the winter woods and great company.  Thanks to Joyce for the attached photos.
