What a great way to begin the New Year . . . with a paddle on the Hooch! The sun was shining and it turned our warmer than we expected. The water was high, the current was fast, and we were able to explore parts of the river that we are not usually accessible with normal water levels. We had so much fun venturing downstream, that for a moment we forgot about the current that was swiftly moving us towards Bull Sluice. We quickly remembered the current, as we turned around to head back upstream. I have never paddled upstream against a current so strong. We had a group of troopers today and a lot of fantastic teamwork. Thank you to Joe, who so graciously stayed back with Tara and me, as we decided it would be smarter for us to take out sooner than the original spot. He offered us Gouda cheese, blueberries, and a sleeve of Oreos, while we waited to be picked up. Thank you to Tara, who still said the paddle was great at the end, even though we were both completely worn out. Thank you to Ray, who came to pick up Joe and Tara and take them back to their cars. Thank you to Thomas, who came back to pick up his very tired wife. Thank you to Erica, who waited for us in the back to make sure we were safe. Thank you all for the smiles and the great fun!! I can't wait to paddle with you all (downstream and with a shuttle) next time!
