Write Up:

How wonderfully flexible this group was! Unbeknownst to us until the carpool reached the entrance gate, the Riverside Day Park is closed for the season - - so our trailhead was off-limits from the dam parking area. With some quick thinking and several phone calls to members who were still on their way, we arranged to meet at the Bethany Bridge trailhead, just outside Red Top Mountain. This lot would normally be full on the weekend, but because of the recent rains and the threat of more downfall, we had the lot to ourselves. We actually started the hike right on time, and had great trails all the way! The rain stayed at bay until well after lunch. We did the hike in reverse, but covered the same distance and elevation, agreeing that it was a wonderfully challenging hike with great views of Lake Allatoona, the woods, and the dam.

A dozen of us celebrated the morning with lunch at SWheat Market Deli, where we enjoyed hearty homemade soups and sandwiches. A couple of people even ordered the sweet potato fries! What a great place to eat after a hike!

We were grateful that the rain bubble protected us this morning, enabling us to have a successful hike. ~ Joyce
