We had a gorgeous sunny day without a cloud in the sky and 10 new AOC members joining us on this hike. It was a bit chilly when we started out, but it warmed up very quickly. Before long, we were shedding layers and quite comfortable as the temps moved into the upper 60s. The fall foliage was peaking and provided some gorgeous color framing the trail as we went along. We started by checking out the historic Jones Bridge, then hiked down the trail along the river, spotting a heron wading close to shore (see pics). We headed up the little hill and up into the woods where we spotted a few deer who carefully watched us as we hiked by. After turning around at the monkeybars just outside the park's southern border, we took a lunch break and enjoyed some good conversation. Then, well-rested and well-fed, we headed back. This was Cliff's first time co-leading a hike and he did a great job keeping track of everyone and getting us back to the trailhead. It seems like all the new members had fun and hopefully we'll see them again soon on the trail.
