We had a very soggy but enjoyable hike today...Sawnee was plan B after our N Ga hike being canceled due to the rain, and we were glad we were still able to get out on the trail. We started out on the Laurel trail and took that in a long loop, back over the ridge and then up to the "Indian Seats" area at the top (see pics)...the usual scenic views of the distant Blue Ridge Mtns were replaced by a wall of white, but it was still nice up there and the fogged in summit had its own appeal. We then headed down to the parking and a covered picnic area to dry off just a little and eat some snacks. After regrouping and re-gearing up, we headed back on another loop, this time up the "secret" troad and up a steeper route to the top. From here we worked our way back down and back around, stopping at the visitor center to see the lonely receptionist who had not seen another soul on this rainy day. We picked up the pace on the way back to the cars and while rather saturated at this end, we were glad to have gotten in a good 3 hr workout and enjoyed the usual engaging conversation on the trail.
