Write Up:

Neither the weather nor the group of hikers could have been better.    Our group of diversely experienced hikers assembled at the base of Yonah and gazed at the peak and wondered if we could make it.   I, the trip leader, had no concerns.

We took our time to get a comfortable pace and made it to the half-way overlook.   Then, the more difficult section awaited us, and doubts seemed to arise.   But with some peer pressure and self determination, we conquered the mid section then rested on the Boulders where any difficulties disappeared as we were distracted by the views.

Because the group appeared to remain strong, we chose not to backtrack but instead bushwacked our way up the rocky crags to the last bear crawl section before resting at the peak's stone outcrop with beautiful views of the mountains and valleys.

Once recovered, we slowly made our way along the western face of Yonah and stopped for some memorable pictures at the outcrop overhang.    A majority of the participants slayed their fears and got their picture taken; a statistic that exceeded this trip leader's expectations...great job!

After enjoying the vista views, we made our last stop on the Southface and could see Stone Mountain and the Atlanta Skyline on the horizon.  It was a spectacular day.    Finally, we made the very short final few steps to the grassy peak of Yonah's pinnacle before making our way back down to the starting point.

My hat is off to all participants...it was a pleasure to lead this trip...I knew you could make the ascent!  Let's do it again!
