Write Up:

The weather turned out to be sunny and the group was an amiable fivesome, making for a lovely, lyrical hike.

The parking lot at Woody Gap was packed, with the overflow spilling on to the highway, for which reason we expected a crowd on the trail. Not so, although it was as busy as one might expect on a beautiful long weekend. One new development since I last did this hike two years ago: on our way out, starting at Preaching Rock we saw hoards of students from the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega, who have apparently adopted this section of the trail.

One correction to the hike description. We had several measuring devices with us and of course they did not agree, but putting all the results together, we are inclined to believe the Garmin's reading of 2260 ft for the elevation gain, not the 2000 provided in the hike description. Total hiking time with two leisurely stops was 5.5 hours.
